Heritage Open Days Welcome More Than 120 Visitors to Bagshot Chapel

The parish council was delighted to welcome more than 120 visitors to Bagshot Chapel during this month's Heritage Open Days events.

The open days provided a wonderful opportunity for residents and visitors from across Surrey Heath to explore one of Bagshot's hidden historic gems, learn about the chapel's fascinating past, and discover more about local family histories through the cemetery records held by the Parish Council.

Among the many visitors was a lady who has lived in Bagshot all her life and remembers seeing the chapel as a child. Despite her long connection to the village, this was the first time she had ever been inside the building. Her visit highlighted just how important Heritage Open Days are in giving people the chance to experience local heritage that they may have passed by for many years without ever stepping inside.

Windlesham Parish Council Vice-Chair, Valerie White, said:
"It never ceases to amaze me the number of people who have lived in the village all their life and either didn't know the chapel was there or did know but have never visited. The Heritage Open Days are a great opportunity to learn some of Bagshot's history. It's a total education for me listening to residents reminiscing about our lovely village. This year we had over 120 visitors from all over Surrey Heath. One lady was able to plot her family history from the grave's records we hold."

The Parish Council would like to thank everyone who visited, shared their memories, and helped make this year's Heritage Open Days such a success. We look forward to welcoming visitors back to Bagshot Chapel next year. Also, keep an eye out for details on the popular Christmas carol event at the chapel in December.
