About Bagshot Chapel

This unusual early 20th-century chapel of rest is set within the peaceful surroundings of Bagshot Cemetery and holds significant historical importance for the local community.

Visitors will have the chance to step inside the chapel and learn more about its past and the stories connected with the site, including the poignant history of Emily Jane Popejoy, whose grave lies within the cemetery and whose tragic story became widely known in Victorian society.

The chapel itself replaced an earlier structure and remains a distinctive and much-valued part of Bagshot’s heritage today.

Visiting Information

  • The chapel is accessed via a small lane off Chapel Lane, near the Infant School.
  • Parking is residential, and visitors are kindly asked to be considerate of local residents.
  • Paths within the cemetery are gravel and grass, so care should be taken when visiting.

Visitors can expect short informal visits (approximately 30 minutes), offering a glimpse into this quiet and historic site.
