Council Update: CGR Decision at SHBC Meeting
Published: 20 February 2025
At last night’s SHBC Council meeting, councillors voted overwhelmingly to defer the request for a Community Governance Review (CGR). The decision passed without objections, with four councillors abstaining. As a result, the CGR request will now be considered as part of the broader local government reorganisation review expected later this year.
Ahead of this decision, SHBC Councillors Wilson and Wheeler proposed and seconded an amendment calling for an immediate CGR. Following a detailed discussion, the amendment was voted down by 20 votes to 10.
The decision to defer was largely influenced by the upcoming transition to a Unitary Authority, which will bring significant changes to local governance across the county.
As local government reorganisation progresses, Windlesham Parish Council remains committed to serving our communities with stability and dedication. We continue to work closely with our partners at all levels of local government to ensure a smooth transition and the best possible outcomes for our residents.
Please note: Before the meeting, WPC submitted questions regarding the CGR request, which, along with the responses received, can be viewed on the SHBC website.
