network upgrade
18 March 2018: For immediate release
Scottish and
Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) is to hold the next in a series of public
engagement events in relation to its multi-million pound project to upgrade the
electricity network between Ascot and Chobham.
Residents and
business owners are invited to their community engagement events on Friday
29 March and Tuesday 2 April, to find out more about the £7.4
million programme of works which spans a 14km long section of SSEN’s Thames
Valley electricity infrastructure.
All are welcome
to attend the events, where SSEN’s project team will be on hand to discuss the
project, address any issues that residents or business owners may have and
explain the benefits of the project for the local community.
SSEN’s Project
Manager, Anthony Horne said: “This programme of works, which started last
month, will run until March 2020 and we want to make sure that everyone who
lives and works in the area is aware of any sections of the project that might
have an impact on them.
“Our aim is
always to minimise disruption, while maximising the safety of our colleagues
and our customers who may be in the vicinity of this project; these engagement
events give us to the opportunity to meet the local community to talk through
the works in detail and enable those attending to raise any questions they may
have.”
The £7.4 million
pound investment in the electricity network is set to help future-proof the
network from Chobham to Ascot, will support a more robust power supply for the
area, through the undergrounding of sections of cable and the refurbishment of
the primary substation at the site of the Military Vehicles and Engineering
Establishment, will also allow for future commercial and residential
connections. The substation element of the project alone will provide power to
10,000 customers, with the overall programme of works keeping the
infrastructure secure for decades to come.
If you would
like to find out more about SSEN’s investment in Ascot’s electricity network
and the benefits it will bring, please come along to one of our upcoming
events:
- All Souls Church Hall, All Souls Road, Ascot SL5 9EB
between 12:00 and 19:00 on Friday 29 March
- St Johns Church, Church Road, Windlesham, GU20 6BL
between 12:00 and 19:00 on Tuesday 2 April
Letter drops will be carried out to homes
and businesses to update them on the phases of the project as it reaches their
immediate area and, as some of the areas of the upgrade may lead to minor
traffic management systems being used temporarily, details of which will be
posted on www.roadworks.org.
