Windlesham Parish Council manages five recreation grounds: School Lane Field and Freemantle Road in Bagshot; Windmill Field and Kings Lane in Windlesham; and Lightwater Recreation Ground.
Each play area undergoes regular maintenance inspections as recommended by ROSPA (The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents), and the Council plans to refresh playground equipment on a rolling basis.
In 2023, work took place to replace the playgrounds at Lightwater Recreation Ground and School Lane Field, Bagshot. To encourage fitness and healthy living, these two playgrounds also benefited from the installation of outdoor gyms.
In June 2024, Freemantle Road Playground in Bagshot was renovated with exciting new equipment, including a climbing frame with slide, a rock ’n’ bowl roundabout, a hedgehog springy, new swings, and a sensory totem pole.
In the summer of 2025, the playground at Windmill Field, Windlesham, was fully replaced. The new facilities include an accessible roundabout, play frames designed for a variety of ages, and a small trim trail with a built-in trampoline. A huge improvement that offers something for everyone.
Community events also benefit from the Parish Council’s open spaces. To date, the Council has granted free-of-charge access to Lightwater Recreation Ground for the Lightwater Fete and the Lightwater bonfire and fireworks.
In addition to the above recreation areas, the Council also owns and maintains the south side of High Curley, a heathland area of special scientific interest.
